Emergency Preparedness

The Emergency Preparedness Office is tasked with the following capabilities:
•    Community resilience through various education efforts regarding preparedness and recovery
•    Countermeasures and mitigation via medical material management and distribution, non-pharmaceutical interventions, responder safety and health, and medical countermeasure dispensing
•    Surge management via planning for medical surge, mass care, fatality management, and volunteer management
•    Information management through emergency public information and alerts as well as information sharing
•    Incident management via training, coordination, cooperation with emergency management, the medical community, and first responder agencies

Every individual and family needs to be prepared for any kind of disaster. Two important ways to be prepared are to have a disaster kit for your home and to have an emergency plan.

Why is the Region H Healthcare Coalition important?

When a disaster hits a community or a region, the entire healthcare system will be impacted and will have to respond. All healthcare organizations, from the largest hospital to a small community health center, will need to work together in a coordinated fashion to effectively respond to the disaster and work towards recovery. Planning together saves lives!

One objective of the Region H Healthcare Coalition is the development of a coordinated emergency response plan. By planning collaboratively, all members of the coalition will be strengthened and will be better prepared. Your organization will learn from the experiences of others. By participating in the coalition, your organization may be able to meet some of your requirements related to emergency plans and exercises. To join or for more information, please contact us:

The Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) is a large quantity of medicines and medical supplies managed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). SNS contains antibiotics, chemical antidotes, antitoxins, life-support medications, IV administration, airway maintenance supplies, and medical/surgical items that can be used to protect the public in an emergency. During a public health emergency, local areas may run out of critical medicines or medical supplies. The Strategic National Stockpile is designed for rapid deployment to quickly augment state and local supplies.
